Contemporary dance workshop in Cumana, by Maya M. Carroll

Maya M. Carroll | The Instrument :

“This class handles body, movement, time and space as internal and external latitudes through which dancers perceive their work and compose their actions. Each session is a continual process, following on from tuning and awakening of the senses, to handling physicality and directing it from center to space. Investigating deeper, we work on specifying how we carry our physicality in our dancing; how we elaborate thought, vision and desire within real-time composition.

Integrating skill and fluidity with in /outlook at vision and imagery, we observe and rediscover our own interaction with vocabulary, timing and rhythm. These elements grow from individual tuning to partnering, collaborative listening and group-work constellations. As an improvisation practice, the work follows our passion in the present moment, pursuing its many expressions through the scope of performance/ performative states. The classes are aimed for movers and dancers who wish to research and expand their compositional practice.”
